How do you like your eggs? There's a multitude of different ways to cook an egg. The most obvious are listed below. Photos and cooking techniques will be coming soon along with recipes in the recipe section.
Cooking an egg by simmering in boiling liquid. (I haven't tried to poach an egg in anything other than water (yet).
Cooking the egg in moderately hot fat. The choice of fat makes a big difference in terms of both flavour and health.
Several eggs beaten together and then slowly cooked in a pan whilst constantly stirring (often with a small amount of fat) until just hard.
Apparently, the shepherds of Egypt had a singular manner of cooking eggs without the aid of fire. They placed them in a sling, which they turned so rapidly that the friction of the air heated them to the exact point required for use, (thanks again Mrs Beeton!)
Again, several eggs beaten together and mixed with other ingredients ranging from onions, mushrooms and potato to ham, cheese or chorizo.
The whole egg is cooked in its shell in boiling water. A tricky one to get right consistently as you can't see whether the egg is cooked how you like it without opening it.
An egg-soaked piece of bread fried in the frying pan.
Use the microwave to scramble or poach an egg but not boil it (it will explode)
Put the whole egg in the oven and roast it. I've not tried it yet but will do soon!
The easier way to make an omelette - put the mixture in an oven-proof dish and bake it. You are less likely to burn the bottom.
Mmm, can't see this working to be honest.
Best go to Scotland for this one. Best served with deep-fried Mars bar and Iron Bru!
